CFS Camp Pond

Connecticut Friends School Summer Camp fully utilizes the natural environment of our rustic 5.5 acre wooded property by incorporating the meadow, trails and garden into daily activities that inspire creativity, environmental stewardship, and play.

Campers participate in “Barn Chores” such as feeding, providing fresh water and cleaning hutches for our 4 rabbits and they do service work projects such as trail maintenance or collecting food for distribution to the Connecticut Food Bank..

A sample camp day will include the following:

Morning Meeting: Includes a greeting, news from home, plans for the day ahead, singing, and a few minutes of silent reflection.

Group Games are non-competitive and are designed to get our campers excited for the day while building community.

Choice Activities are typically individual projects, or small group work that give the children a choice of rotating between different activities or focusing at one station for the allotted time. Examples of choice activities include: Printmaking, Microscope Studies, Fiber Arts Projects, Clay Sculpture, and Carpentry.

Group Activities The group will be sharing the same experience, but in developmentally appropriate formats to serve the different aged campers. Activities include: Outdoor Education, Gardening, Art Projects, Cooking, Woodland Survival Skills, Science, Service Work, Theater Games, and Music.

Community Building is a time each day that the campers will be using materials specifically aimed towards team building and leadership skills, and will involve all of the campers.

Every Tuesday and Thursday the camp takes off-site Fieldtrips. Thursdays center around recreational activities (Bowling, Hiking, and Mini Golf), while Tuesdays emphasize hands-on educational experiences (Possibilities include: The Discovery Museum, Beardsley Zoo and Milford Point Audubon Center). Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays we swim at Merwin Meadows, Sherwood Island State Park or Calf Pasture Beach.
